Can someone provide some detail for me Stamped below the serial number on the frame is ' BA 4 P 8 67 '. Q: I recently purchased a Remington Rand 1911A1, serial number 1033XXX, from a friends estate. The mainspring housing does not appear to be correct and in fact, it appears to be a mainspring housing from a 1911-1915 manufacture pistol, made either by Colt, Springfield, UMC or North American. There is really no way to tell as far as I know if any or all of the internal springs are the real McCoy. The short guide rod and the spring cap appear to be correct. The "United States Property" stamp is in the correct location. It is the first self-loading pistol developed in the United States. The thumb safety is also correct, as is the placement of the frame serial number. Immediately below the slide stop the letters "EJA" are stamped into the frame The slide stop is the correct one for RemRand pistols in this serial # range, as is the trigger - stamped and Parkerized, as noted for RemRand 1943-45 production. The FJA marking is large and angles down in front of the left grip. It's got the late slide marking on the left side, serrated slide stop and mainspring housing. He had the serial number buffed off so I can't determine the date manufactured in that way. Which National Guard was not specified, but I am presuming Army National Guard. It is fitted with a High Standard barrel marked "HS" and "P" on the sides of the lug and it is fitted with a set of Keyes Fibre brown plastic grips. The pistol has the correct "P" proof below the magazine release button and on top of the slide. Atwood the US Ordnance inspector assigned to the New York District to inspect Remington-Rand pistols. The left side of the frame has the initials of: "FJA" Frank J. It has the standard fixed sight with the early checkered smaller parts such as the slide stop lever, the thumb safety, and arched main spring housing. This example has the early first pattern New York slide markings of: "REMINGTON RAND INC./SYRACUSE, NEW YORK". This pistol was produced in the 1943 time frame production block. This is a very good example of an early production, rare Remington-Rand Model 1911A1 that was produced in the Colt serial number range by error.
